A great deal of important news from the Vatican this morning.
First, the Vatican has released the "lineamenta," the working document for the next phase of the Synod on the Family in 2015. It's notable that the Vatican is asking bishops to collect input from Catholics "at all levels" and, even more notably, asks bishops to "avoid, in their responses, a formulation of pastoral care based simply on an application of doctrine, which would not respect the conclusions of the Extraordinary Synodal Assembly and would lead their reflection far from the path already indicated."
That's a remarkable statement.
Here's the story from Josh McElwee at NCR <her>

Second, the Pope has, as Kevin Clarke reported yesterday from Vienna, has urged the world towards nuclear disarmament: <her>
Third, the Vatican has announced a press conference on December 16, to release the final report of the Apostolic Visitation of women's religious congregations in the U.S. (Not to be confused with the CDF's investigation of the LCWR). At that press conference will be not only be Vatican officials and the coordinator of the Visitation, Mother M. Clare Millea, but also Sr. Sharon Holland, IHM, President of Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) and Mother Agnes Mary Donovan, SV, Coordinator of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (CMSWR).
John L. Allen Jr. at Crux has the story and the background: <her>
