But apparently, he seized the papacy in a rigged election. That was after Barack Obama plotted to bring down Pope Benedict and replace him with a pontiff more sympathetic to Obama’s supposedly left-wing agenda.
You probably won’t be surprised if I tell you that a key peddler of this conspiracy is Breitbart News, the far-right website run until recently by Donald Trump’s adviser Steve Bannon.
Intriguingly, there is a trail connecting Steve Bannon to opponents of Pope Francis, including conservative cardinal Raymond Burke.
